Overview:
The Donald Ross Memorial is, in essence, a “greatest hits” compilation – selecting from some of the designer’s best-known holes from the most renowned courses in his portfolio to create an unforgettable golf course. In an effort to ensure authenticity, yardage for most of the replica holes – and elevation changes from tees to greens – is identical to the original. And while fairway roll and contours may differ slightly, the course looks, plays and feels like a pure Donald Ross design, providing a demanding test that rewards fine play. The results made the effort worthwhile. In a single round of golf on the Donald Ross Memorial, players can experience the history and heritage of 3 Ryder Cups, 8 U.S. Amateurs, 11 PGA Championships, and 14 U.S. Opens.

Overview:
Not just the greatest meeting of land and sea in American golf, but the most extensive as well, with nine holes perched immediately above the crashing Pacific surf (4-10, 17 and 18). Pebble’s 6th through 8th are golf’s real Amen Corner, with a few Hail Mary’s thrown in over the ocean cove on 8 from atop a 75-foot-high bluff. Pebble was voted the Most Fun Public Course in September 2014, and it’s become one of the most popular major championship venues of all time. It will host another U.S. Amateur in 2018, and the very next year it will host its sixth U.S. Open.
Shady Dunes

A fairly flat course, lined with towering bald cypress and live oaks. There are expansive, forgiving fairways, but little room for error outside of that—you will find yourself hitting out of the many large sand traps more times than you would like.

Overview:
“The Home of Golf” at St. Andrews is the only venue in Britain that can lay claim to having seven courses in its portfolio and the Jubilee, the third oldest course at St Andrews, is perhaps the most underrated of them all. The Jubilee plays on a narrow strip of links land, wedged between the New Course and St. Andrews Bay. Some of the holes thread their way through low sand dunes. It’s a much more “normal” layout than the Old and the New. The Jubilee has no double greens or shared fairways, but it does play in the same outandback fashion. The Jubilee’s raised tees provide unparalleled views across St. Andrews Bay to the east and the fluttering flags on the other St. Andrews courses to the west.

Overview:
Opened in April 1895, the course was built in response to increasing demand for golf at St. Andrews, both from locals and from the visitors who were flocking to the town in increasing numbers on the recently constructed railway. The result is a classic links course, which uses the natural features of the land to create a first class golfing challenge. The course has the traditional outandback layout, with the 18th green just to the right of the 1st tee. It also has, in the great St. Andrews tradition, shared fairways and even a double green at the 3rd and 15th holes. It has frequently been said that if the New Course were not situated next to the Old, then its star would have shone with a far greater degree of brilliance.

Overview:
The Old Course St. Andrews is surely the Mecca of the golfing world. Golf has been played here for over six centuries on a course that wasn’t architect-designed, but rather has evolved over time out of the natural terrain. Starting and finishing in the town, it is renowned for its huge double greens meaning that a golfer may face a 100-yard putt, compact shared fairways, and massive bunkers (of which there are 112). The 17th hole is often voted the toughest par 4 in golf, with the tee shot having to cut over part of the famous hotel, whilst the Road Hole bunker and the road itself await any loose shot into the green. A definite on any visiting golfer’s itinerary, this famous course has hosted the Open Championship on 28 occasions, with the most recent being in 2010; the next is set to be in 2015.

The Heather continues to receive praise and recognition year after year, and has been ranked as one of the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” by Golf Magazine, and “50 Best Courses for Women” by Golf for Women. Wildlife abounds as you traverse over rolling fairways, natural wetlands, tour white sand bunkers, and blueberry bogs.

The Hollow Grounds is an enjoyable course for any level golfer, with large fairways and lots of room to make mistakes. A rolling links-style course, its wide open appearance can still prove difficult. Tall grasses line the fairways (sometimes splitting it) and surround the greens and deep sand traps are in “all the wrong places.” Large marsh/water hazards will also tempt you to go for it, when it may be wiser to play it safe.
Location: La Romana, Dominican Republic
Architect: Pete Dye
The Links course has a moderately hilly track with tall Bahia and Guinea grass roughs as well as plenty of sand traps to keep you on your toes. Thought by some to be reminiscent of traditional British and Scottish courses, there are several lagoons and even lakes with wading birds. There are five holes where water comes into play on this course making it a challenge unto itself.

Overview:
TPC’s stadium concept was that of then-PGA Tour commissioner Deane Beman (although the old wooden bench seats have long since been removed from the spectator mounds to make room for exclusive air-conditioned skyboxes!!!). The architecture was pure Pete Dye, who set out to test the world’s best golfers by mixing demands of precision with target golf. On some holes, he requires a fade off the tee and a draw into the green. On others, it’s just the opposite. Most greens are ringed by random lumps, bumps and hollows, what Dye calls his “grenade attack architecture.” His ultimate target hole is the sink-or-swim island green 17th, which offers no bailout, perhaps unfairly in windy Atlantic coast conditions. It’s a heart-pounding shot, even for the very best. Dye’s 17th has spawned over a hundred imitations in the past 30 years. Thankfully, most of them offer a lot more grass to shoot at!
